Finally...a Finish!!

Good morning. I promised you all last time that I would finally show off a shelf that I redid after picking it up last month during the Longest Garage Sale. This is a before of the beauty. It was only $3, very sturdy, and came complete with contact paper on the bottom shelves. I stripped it down completely and painted it black with walnut stain over it.

Here it is after. I put it at the top of the stairs in the landing room. That's where the kids have a tv and their video games. I have been looking for a long time for something to put there. I just love how it looks and it is the perfect size. I also picked up a wall shelf at another sale. I didn't take a before but it was black with a bad case of gold sponge painting!! I had to rescue it and just paint it black to match the shelf.

The wall shelf was actually more than the big one. But for $8 and the cost of paint, I have a brand new display. So happy!!!

I also repainted a little tote to put upstairs on the coffee table. Actually the coffee table is a garage sale find from a couple of years ago. I think it was a bench. I painted the tote Pumpernickel from Pittsburg Paints. I bought a little sample bottle at Menards. It is just like a dark mustard. I really like it.

I did open a selling blog. Thanks to those of you who offered advice and names. I chose Farm Field Primitive Goods as the name. I have a few things I hope to get listed in the next week. Stop by and check it out when you get time. There is a link on this page.

Finally, you have all heard about the Headless Horseman, right? Well, we have our own version at our home. Actually, she is the Headless Cat. It's our goofy cat JoJo in her favorite napping spot...the old wooden bowl. She was so soundly asleep that she never woke up after I took her picture. What a goofball!!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend. I am sad that summer is gone even though I do love fall. We need to find out how we could just skip winter and go straight into spring again. Sorry, snow fans. I'm not one of you.

Take care and thanks for stopping by.

  7. Melissa,

I love the color on that tote. What great deals you have in your finds. With a little elbow grease, and some paint you can do a lot.

  10. Great makeovers. Your new black shelf unit is really nice! If I had seen that at a sale I would probably have just walked on by it, but you had a great vision for what it could become. I like your kitty bowl filler too.
